By Kate Stellman | 12/04/2018 06:00:54 It’s the time of year when we celebrate blind dates, and in 2018, the dating world was rocked by the sudden death of celebrity dating website, blinddate.com.
The site, which was one of the best and most popular in the world, went down on Monday, with the site’s former owner, Mark Cuban, announcing his resignation from the company.
“We are incredibly saddened to report that Mark Cuban has resigned from BlindDate,” a spokesperson for the company wrote on Twitter.
“Mark Cuban has announced his resignation and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
As we reported last year, a massive hack in late 2016 and early 2017 resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in lost data.
In the wake of the hack, a number of celebrities including Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande, Tom Hanks, and Sarah Jessica Parker joined the chorus of celebrities who took to Twitter to express their condolences and their anger over the loss of their personal data.
One of the earliest to share their thoughts was the now famous Instagram photos of Bieber and his family, which had been shared by his mother, and which included his wife, Amber Rose.
“Just watched Justin’s family take a selfie on the beach with the kids.
This is so heartbreaking,” Amber Rose wrote on Instagram.
“I love you, Justin,” she wrote in response.
You were an incredible dad.
#RIPMark” Tom Hahn wrote in a similar Instagram post.
“The loss of Mark is devastating.
He will be sorely missed by many,” he wrote.
“He loved so many of us and the company will miss him deeply.”
Hanks posted a similar message in a separate post on Instagram, calling Mark Cuban “a brilliant person and a wonderful husband and father.”
“He was a dear friend, a great person and my heart goes out to his wife Amber and the whole Hanks family,” he continued.
“Our hearts are broken.”
Rihanna shared a similar photo of herself and her husband, Frank Ocean, in which she wrote: “RIP @markcuban, you will always be in our hearts.
Katy Perry shared a similarly emotional message in an Instagram post, with her caption reading: “My deepest love to @markcube @myfavouritefavouritedrobot and my lovely husband, Justin.
A number of other celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston, Demi Lovato, and Emma Stone, also expressed their condolences on Twitter, and many of them also thanked their fans for their continued support.
“My thoughts are with all of those who were affected by this tragedy,” Aniston wrote.
Rihanna also shared a post from her Instagram account, saying that she is “so sorry for the loss” of her friend, and her “heart goes out” to her family and friends.
“It’s been an amazing ride with so many people helping me through this,” she added.
“With love, @mariahdanielle.”
“I have lost my heart to Mark and his beautiful family.
My heart is with everyone.
I am so sorry for this loss,” she continued.
Amber Rose posted a tweet to her personal account, asking, “What a great way to end the year.”
“Happy Birthday Mark,” she captioned the post.
And a number other celebrities tweeted their condolences as well, including singer and comedian Miley Cyrus.
“So sad to hear of the passing of Mark Cuban and his wonderful family.
I love you all and look forward to the future,” she said.
“Happy birthday Mark.”
The site’s founders, Mark and Molly Cernovich, announced the news in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, stating that Mark and Holly had decided to end their partnership after six years of service.
“On behalf of Mark and the entire Cernovishes family, Mark has informed us of his resignation effective immediately,” the statement read.
“They wish Mark and company the very best in the coming months and years.”
According to the site, Mark’s family members will continue to run the site.
“His wife, Holly, is the founder and sole owner of BlindDate.com and will continue as the sole operator and administrator of the site,” the Cernowks said in a joint statement to the publication.
“Holly is a tireless advocate for the blind and her support for BlindDate will always continue to be a central focus of her life and work.”
